FAQ

What is Kintsugilt?

Taking a contemporary approach to gothic design and composition, Kintsugilt adorns unique oddities and jewellery with 24ct gold leaf. Each piece is created from cruelty-free and sustainably sourced natural materials, giving deceased animals a chance to be admired, even in death, by highlighting their beauty.

What does cruelty-free and sustainable mean?

Nothing will ever be killed deliberately for my art. All bones, skulls, teeth, and other natural components used in my work are found as natural deaths. I collect pieces myself and buy from trusted sources to ensure that my pieces remain ethical; If you want to know exactly where a piece was sourced from please feel free to email me for peace of mind!

I want to produce as little waste as possible so wrap and package my pieces in recycled and reused packaging or fully recyclable materials if new.

How do I look after my pieces? Will the gold come off?

As all my items are made from natural resources, I do all I can to strengthen components without compromising their natural beauty. To keep your pieces protected and well looked after, please handle with care and store and display safely, out of direct sunlight and away from increased humidity and temperatures.

After gilding, my work is coated in UV resin to protect the gold. However, excessive pressure and friction can affect the quality of the finished piece and so they are not designed to be worn consistently (overnight, or in the shower etc.) Contact with oil or alcohol based perfumes can effect the gilding quality, please take appropriate precautions.

Do you do custom pieces?

Yes, I am always excited to discuss custom pieces! Feel free to email me about these enquiries when my commission spaces are open and I will do my best to work something out! A 50% non-refundable deposit will be required, with the remainder paid on completion.
